Dear Athletes, Coaches, Officials, Families, and Friends,
It is with great pride and heartfelt excitement that I welcome you all to the 2025 Classic Powerlifting World
Championship in the beautiful city of Chemnitz, Germany. This year is an extraordinary moment not only for our
sport but for the city itself, as Chemnitz holds the prestigious title of European Capital of Culture 2025. Together,
we are about to witness a remarkable convergence of strength, culture, and unity.
Chemnitz’s designation as a cultural capital promises unseen art, diverse international encounters, vibrant
festivals, and inspiring exhibitions. It is an honor for the International Powerlifting Federation to be part of this
cultural tapestry. Sport has always been a powerful expression of culture—a celebration of human endeavor,
resilience, and community. By bringing the international powerlifting family to Chemnitz, we not only showcase
the strength of our athletes but also contribute to the rich cultural narrative of this city and region.
Germany’s long-standing sporting tradition and strong culture of athletic excellence make it an ideal host for our
event. As we gather here, let us recognize the unique role we play as members of the global powerlifting
community. Together, we bring a spirit of unity and international friendship that transcends borders and celebrates
our shared passion for this incredible sport. Your presence here—whether as an athlete, coach, official, or
supporter—is a testament to the values that define us: commitment, inclusivity, and mutual respect.
This championship is not just a competition; it is an opportunity to build bridges. This is why we aspire to
combine the Special Olympics into our tournaments, creating a broader platform of inclusivity, and why we plan
to hold an information round following our General Assembly. Together, we will share experiences and contribute
to the cultural vibrancy of Chemnitz. As you step onto the platform, cheer from the stands, or explore the city’s
many cultural offerings, know that you are part of something greater—a global community that exemplifies the
beauty of diversity and the strength of unity.
On behalf of the IPF, I thank the city of Chemnitz for hosting us and for welcoming the powerlifting world into its
cultural embrace. Let us all seize this opportunity to not only push the limits of our strength but also immerse
ourselves in the spirit of this extraordinary city and its people.
Thank you for being here, and I wish you all an unforgettable experience, on
and off the platform.
With warm regards and best wishes for success,
Sigurjon Petursson
President, International Powerlifting Federation

Dear strength sports fans,
Welcome and good luck to Chemnitz, the European Capital of Culture!
Of course, everyone knows about the tradition of figure skating and is proud
of the Chemnitz NINERS with their spectacular successes. However, the diversity of a city is reflected precisely in whether it creates good conditions for a wide range of sporting passions,
organizes volunteer work, and enables athletic competitions
in a good atmosphere.
This can be taken quite literally at the World Powerlifting Championships next June. 1,000 athletes
from over 50 countries will compete and test their strength in the traditional disciplines of squats, bench press, and deadlifts.
Cheering is permitted in powerlifting, and the 2,000 spectators expected
at the respective competitions can provide a good tailwind with their motivating cheers.
I am pleased that more and more people are discovering this sport.
Because having strength and trusting in it, setting things in motion, training together, advancing oneself, and ultimately rewarding one’s achievements with applause – these are simply good experiences, and they also contribute to a city’s quality of life.
A heartfelt thank you, therefore, to everyone involved in the successful preparation and execution of this top-class World Championship. Thanks for the excellent cooperation of the organizers, the International Powerlifting Federation, the German Powerlifting Association, and BSC Rapid Chemnitz. Thanks to all those who volunteer their time.
I wish the athletes success in achieving their goals and even overcoming their limits. What you achieve is an incentive and inspiration for all those who cheer and support you.
Michael Kretschmer
Prime Minister of the Free State of Saxony
